Modi Launches Rs 5,127-Crore Push: Lays Foundation for Arunachal Hydropower, Opens Tawang Centre, Inaugurates Tripura Temple Works

The rollout pairs NEEPCO-led dams with a proposed Frontier Highway plus Vibrant Village Programme Phase II to strengthen border connectivity.

Overview

  • Heo (240 MW) and Tato-I (186 MW) hydropower projects will be developed by NEEPCO with Arunachal Pradesh at a combined cost of about Rs 3,689–3,700 crore, targeting roughly 1,803 million units of annual generation.
  • The state-of-the-art convention centre in Tawang, built at about Rs 145–147 crore, is designed for more than 1,500 delegates and aims to boost conferencing, culture and tourism.
  • Ten additional infrastructure works worth around Rs 1,291 crore include the proposed 1,830-km Frontier Highway running parallel to the McMahon Line from Bomdila to Vijaynagar.
  • Vibrant Village Programme Phase II is slated to upgrade 122 border villages with all-weather roads, 4G coverage and on-grid electrification, with Rs 2,205 crore sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • After the Itanagar event and public address, the Prime Minister traveled to Tripura to inaugurate redevelopment works at the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple under the PRASAD scheme, with security tightened for the visits.
