- Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, sending Rs 10,000 each via DBT to 75 lakh women for a total of Rs 7,500 crore, with Nitish Kumar joining from Patna and over one crore women witnessing the event statewide.
- Phase one beneficiaries were selected from 3.06 crore applications, and the scheme is designed to cover one woman from every family in Bihar.
- Funds are intended as seed capital for self-employment across activities such as agriculture, animal husbandry, tailoring, weaving, handicrafts and other small enterprises.
- Implementation runs through Jeevika’s Self Help Group network under the Rural Development Department, with urban rollout overseen by the Urban Development and Housing Department and support from expanded Gramin haat-bazaars.
- Officials said beneficiaries will be assessed after six months for performance-linked follow-on support up to Rs 2 lakh, as the NDA highlights the programme’s women-focused outreach ahead of assembly elections.
