Modi Inaugurates South India Natural Farming Summit in Coimbatore, Releases PM-Kisan 21st Instalment

The Prime Minister used the conclave to press a shift to chemical-free cultivation as a climate-smart path for Indian agriculture.

Overview

  • Over Rs 18,000 crore was transferred under the 21st PM-KISAN instalment to nine crore beneficiaries, continuing the scheme’s Rs 6,000 per-year support paid in three instalments.
  • Modi said expanding natural farming is the “demand of the 21st century,” arguing it can improve soil health, reduce chemical dependence, and help address climate change.
  • The three-day summit opened at Coimbatore’s CODISSIA complex with a roadshow, exhibition visits, farmer–scientist interactions, and awards for natural farming achievers, drawing tens of thousands from southern states.
  • A multi-layer security operation ring-fenced the venue and routes with SPG and CISF control, drone restrictions, traffic diversions, and thousands of police deployed across Coimbatore.
  • Dignitaries including Governor R. N. Ravi and AIADMK leader E. K. Palaniswami received the Prime Minister, with organisers noting 21.8 lakh PM-KISAN beneficiaries in Tamil Nadu, including 44,837 in Coimbatore, and sessions scheduled through November 21.
