Modi Inaugurates Safran LEAP Engine MRO in Hyderabad, India’s First OEM-Run Centre

The project anchors India’s push to localise high‑value engine upkeep to reduce costs for airlines.

Overview

  • The Prime Minister virtually opened Safran Aircraft Engine Services India at Hyderabad’s GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park as the country’s first aircraft engine MRO set up by a global OEM.
  • The 45,000‑square‑metre facility represents about Rs 1,300 crore in investment, is designed to handle up to 300 LEAP engine shop visits annually, and targets more than 1,000 skilled jobs by full capacity.
  • Safran says the centre will begin receiving engines in early 2026 with a phased ramp‑up of roughly 30, 60 and 90 shop visits in the first three years as Indian technicians are trained.
  • Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu projected the aircraft MRO market at about USD 4 billion by 2031 and said onshoring maintenance could save up to USD 15 billion in foreign exchange.
  • A foundation was laid for an M88 military engine MRO in Hyderabad as Safran also signalled readiness to establish Rafale fighter‑engine assembly in India if additional orders materialise.
