Overview
- Mumbai’s new airport is designed to operate alongside Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport as a twin-airport system for the region.
- Developed via a public–private partnership between Adani’s Mumbai International Airport Limited and CIDCO, the project is positioned as a flagship infrastructure effort.
- Phase 1 starts with one runway and a terminal sized for 20 million passengers per year, with plans to scale to 90 million across four runways and multiple terminals.
- The site is planned as a multimodal hub linked to the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, metro lines, suburban rail and proposed waterways to cut travel times and boost connectivity.
- Facilities include a dedicated cargo terminal with advanced handling for perishables and express shipments, which officials say will speed exports for farmers and fisherfolk.
