Overview
- Located at Indira Dock in the Ballard Pier area, the terminal was formally opened by the prime minister on Saturday as part of a national maritime push.
- Spanning about 415,000 sq ft, the facility is designed to handle up to 1 million passengers a year with capacity for five cruise ships at once and 72 check-in and immigration counters.
- Built at a cost of ₹556 crore, the project will be operated under a 30-year concession by Ballard Pier Port Pvt Ltd and JM Baxi and Co.
- Cruise operations at the site began on April 21, 2025, when Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal flagged off services.
- The terminal features a wavy-ceiling design and shore-to-ship electric power to cut emissions, with associated waterfront projects including a renovated Fire Memorial, heritage lighting, and the Sagar Upvan garden.
