Modi Inaugurates Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro Phase 2, Opening 5.36-Km Stretch to Mahatma Mandir

The new link connects the Secretariat area to Gandhinagar’s civic core to improve access for commuters across government, education, culture and rail hubs.

Overview

  • Service began on January 11 with the newly opened corridor in Gandhinagar now operational for the public.
  • The extension runs from Sector 10A/Secretariat to Mahatma Mandir and covers the Sachivalaya complex and nearby zones.
  • Five stations opened on the stretch: Akshardham, Juna Sachivalaya (Old Secretariat), Sector-16, Sector-24 and Mahatma Mandir.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off a train at Mahatma Mandir; Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi attended and later rode to Sachivalaya.
  • Officials say the link completes the remaining metro connection between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar and is expected to cut travel time and ease road congestion.
