Modi Flags Off Five Amrit Bharat Trains as Vande Bharat Sleeper Begins Service

The launches expand affordable long-distance links under a fixed-fare Amrit Bharat policy.

Overview

  • The five new Amrit Bharat routes are DibrugarhGomti Nagar, KamakhyaRohtak, HowrahAnand Vihar, SealdahBanaras, and SantragachiTambaram.
  • The additions strengthen links between the Northeast, East, North and South and form part of nine new Amrit Bharat services rolled out this weekend.
  • Under the Amrit Bharat II rules, non-AC sleeper fares are about ₹500 per 1,000 km with no dynamic pricing, with minimum chargeable distances of 200 km for Sleeper and 50 km for Second class.
  • Launched a day earlier, the Vande Bharat Sleeper now runs six days a week on HowrahKamakhya in about 14 hours with confirmed-ticket-only travel and fares from ₹960 to ₹13,300.
  • Railways has set fleet goals of about 800 Vande Bharat trainsets by 2030 and roughly 4,500 by 2047, subject to infrastructure and manufacturing capacity.
