Overview
- Modi flagged off the first standard-gauge locomotive built at the Marhowra plant in Bihar for export to Guinea
- India will deliver 150 locomotives valued at over Rs 3,000 crore between 2025 and 2028 to support the Simandou iron ore project
- Each locomotive is equipped with a high-horsepower engine, advanced AC propulsion, regenerative braking and microprocessor-based controls
- Cabins include air-conditioning, refrigerators, microwaves and fire detection systems, and designs are adapted for Guinea’s track gauge and climate
- The Marhowra plant, established in 2015 as an Indian Railways-Wabtec partnership, has expanded into a global export hub and boosted local employment
