Overview

  • Modi travels Aug. 29–30 to Tokyo for his first standalone Japan visit in nearly seven years, his eighth since 2014.
  • The 15th Annual Summit with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will review defence, trade, and science and technology ties, with Quad and Indo-Pacific security slated for discussion.
  • The program includes a business leaders' forum and tours of Tokyo Electron in Akasaka and the Tohoku Shinkansen plant in Sendai.
  • Both sides are expected to finalize an agreement to introduce Japanese E-10 coaches for India’s Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail, with transfer targeted for 2030.
