Overview
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak and INS Agray at a ceremony in Kolkata on Sunday, June 21, 2026, formally adding the three vessels to the Indian Navy.
- All three ships were designed in India and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers with more than 75% indigenous content and parts supplied by over 200 micro, small and medium enterprises.
- INS Dunagiri is a Project 17A stealth guided‑missile frigate fitted with BrahMos cruise missiles and a Medium Range Surface‑to‑Air Missile system to boost frontline combat and air‑defence capability.
- INS Sanshodhak is a large hydrographic survey vessel carrying autonomous underwater vehicles and remotely operated vehicles for seabed mapping and oceanographic data, while INS Agray is an Arnala‑class shallow‑water anti‑submarine craft armed with lightweight torpedoes, ASW rockets and a 30mm gun.
- Officials and the Navy framed the inductions as proof of faster build times and growing self‑reliance, the Prime Minister said more than 40 warships and submarines have been inducted recently and that about 45 major platforms are under construction, and unnamed sources reported two more indigenous ships may be commissioned in July.
