Overview

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Kolkata on Sunday evening and will inaugurate the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference at Eastern Command headquarters on Monday morning.
• The conference runs September 15–17 at Vijay Durg (Fort William) in Kolkata, with sessions billed as the armed forces’ apex strategic forum.
• Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, CDS General Anil Chauhan, the service chiefs and senior officials are slated to attend.
• This year’s theme, “Year of Reforms – Transforming for the Future,” frames discussions on institutional change, deeper integration, technological modernisation and lessons from May’s Operation Sindoor.
• Modi is scheduled to depart for Purnea, Bihar, after the inaugural session to open the new airport terminal, while Kolkata Police have issued temporary traffic and parking restrictions during the visit.
