• Maharashtra said the airport’s official title will be “Loknete DB Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport.”
• The state said the formal designation will be applied when passenger services begin, with dry runs and advance bookings proceeding in the interim.
• Both Houses of the state legislature and the cabinet cleared the proposal before it was sent to the Centre, which is finalising a uniform policy on airport naming.
• Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said cases against activists who protested over the naming, including those under COVID provisions, will be withdrawn subject to due process to protect employment opportunities.
• Proposals to rename the Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar airports are with the Centre, and the Prime Minister is reported to be scheduled to inaugurate the Navi Mumbai airport on October 8.
