Modern Warfare 4 Lands on Switch 2 With Strong Porting and High Input Lag

High measured input lag on the Switch 2 raises doubts about competitive play despite the port meeting Activision’s frame‑rate targets.

Overview

  • Digital Foundry’s Oct. 30 analysis shows the Switch 2 build aims for 30 fps in the campaign, 60 fps in multiplayer and 40 fps in DMZ on 120Hz displays while multiplayer can still dip into the high‑40s and 50s.
  • To fit the hardware the port removes or scales back visual systems, specifically dropping bump mapping, screen‑space reflections and player self‑shadows and reducing level‑of‑detail, transparency and shadow resolution.
  • Measured multiplayer input latency was roughly 81 ms docked and about 100 ms portable on Switch 2 compared with ~49 ms on PS5, a gap large enough to harm players in fast online matches.
  • The Switch 2 release offers Nvidia DLSS and SMAA upscaling modes that trade image sharpness for steadier performance, and the install is smaller at about 88 GB versus roughly 120 GB on PS5.
  • Activision has said Nintendo is “all in” on Call of Duty for Switch 2 and further software updates are the most likely route to fix latency and ongoing multiplayer tuning issues.
