• The staging relocates Shakespeare’s tragedy to today, substituting swords with pistols and baseball bats alongside a freshly adapted contemporary text.
• About 140 mostly amateur performers fill the Passionstheater’s stage, with as many as 70 appearing simultaneously in its large-scale crowd scenes.
• Stefan Hageneier’s leather jackets and oversized lamp-style hats complement Markus Zwink’s score for a 70-member choir and 30-piece orchestra.
• The production premiered to acclaim on July 4 and will be performed on selected evenings through August 2 at the historic Oberammergau venue.
