MoD Signs Rs 4,666-Crore Deals for CQB Carbines and Torpedoes for Kalvari-Class Submarines

The awards underscore an indigenisation push under 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' through domestic manufacturing with firm delivery schedules.

Overview

  • A Rs 2,770 crore contract will supply over 4.25 lakh CQB carbines and accessories to the Army and Navy, replacing decades-old submachine guns.
  • Bharat Forge and PLR Systems won the carbine order, with production reported to be split 60% and 40% respectively and deliveries expected over roughly two years.
  • A separate Rs 1,896 crore deal with Italy’s WASS covers 48 heavyweight torpedoes for the Navy’s six Kalvari-class submarines, with deliveries from April 2028 to early 2030.
  • The contracts were signed at South Block, New Delhi, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
  • The ministry said the procurements advance military modernisation and support MSME participation, bringing FY26 capital contracts signed to about Rs 1,82,492 crore; PLR Systems is reported to be majority-owned by an Adani group unit.
