MoD Signs Rs 4,666 Crore Contracts for CQB Carbines and Heavyweight Torpedoes

The purchases advance Aatmanirbhar Bharat by boosting indigenous defence manufacturing.

  • Over 4.25 lakh CQB carbines worth Rs 2,770 crore were ordered from Bharat Forge and PLR Systems for the Army and Navy to replace decades-old submachine guns.
  • According to reporting, production is planned in a 60:40 split between Bharat Forge and PLR Systems, with deliveries targeted in roughly two years.
  • A separate Rs 1,896 crore deal with Italy’s WASS covers 48 heavyweight torpedoes and associated gear for the Navy’s Kalvari-class (P-75) submarines.
  • The torpedoes are scheduled for delivery from April 2028 to early 2030, with the Navy citing a significant boost to the class’s underwater combat capability.
  • With these signings, the MoD counts Rs 1,82,492 crore in FY26 capital contracts, and highlights MSME participation and PLR’s majority ownership by an Adani Enterprises subsidiary.
