Münster Police Seek Tips After Phone Scam Robs 89-Year-Old of Valuable Coins

Investigators now focus on a suspect described by police following a bank employee's stop of a planned €10,000 withdrawal.

  • Police report that between August 25 at 13:00 and August 27 at 09:00, callers posing as bank staff repeatedly phoned the victim.
  • Using the alias “Frau Meyer,” the fraudster instructed the woman to remove coins from a safe-deposit box and hand them to an alleged colleague.
  • The handover occurred on August 26 at a playground on Melchersstraße, after which the coins were gone.
  • On August 27 the scammers demanded €10,000 and arranged a taxi to a bank on Warendorfer Straße, but an attentive employee recognized the scheme and alerted police.
  • The man who collected the coins is described as 20–25 years old, 1.70–1.75 meters tall, with black hair and stubble, wearing a white anorak and a pale plaid shirt; police urge anyone with information to call 110 and warn against sharing financial details or handing over valuables.
