MnDOT Plans Weekend Shutdowns on I-494, Highway 5 and I-394 EZ Pass Lanes

Crews will use a Friday-to-Monday window to demolish the northbound Highway 52 bridge over I-494 ahead of rerouting traffic onto the new southbound span

Overview

  • Interstate 494 between Blaine Avenue and Babcock Trail will close from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for demolition of the northbound Highway 52 bridge.
  • Highway 52 traffic will run head-to-head on the new southbound bridge between Upper 55th Street and Mendota Road when I-494 reopens Monday.
  • Highway 5 in Eden Prairie will shut down between Eden Prairie Road and Mitchell Road from July 25 at 10 p.m. to July 28 at 5 a.m., with a second closure scheduled August 1–4 and detours via Highways 212 and 41.
  • The I-394 EZ Pass lanes between Highway 100 and downtown Minneapolis will close late Sunday night and stay shut through late fall for pavement and bridge repairs extending into the 2026 construction season.
  • These weekend operations support a broader MnDOT program to repair concrete, pave shoulders and update guardrails on Highways 5 and 212 through September 2025 and resume regional corridor work next year.
