MnDOT Opens Sixth Annual 'Name a Snowplow' Contest

Public voting on staff-picked finalists comes in January.

Overview

  • Submissions are open online through noon Friday, Dec. 19, 2025.
  • Each person may submit one name capped at 30 characters including spaces, with no vulgarity or political references and no past winners.
  • MnDOT urges entries that are witty, unique, and Minnesota or winter themed.
  • Past contests produced viral names such as Plowy McPlowFace, Snowbi Wan Kenobi, and Taylor Drift.
  • After the submission window closes, MnDOT staff will select finalists for Minnesotans to choose the winners next month.
