MMRDA Trials Clear 4.4-Km Priority Stretch on Mumbai Metro Lines 4/4A

Passenger service hinges on final safety approvals before a December 2025 Phase 1 start.

Overview

  • Officials conducted a technical inspection and trial run on the Gaimukh–Vijay Garden priority segment covering four stations: Gaimukh, Govaniwada, Kasarvadavli and Vijay Garden.
  • Phase 1 is planned in two stages, with the priority section targeted for December 2025 and the full stretch to Cadbury Junction aimed for April 2026, subject to statutory clearances.
  • The viaduct, track and overhead equipment have been completed, with Independent Safety Assessor certification to be followed by CMRS approval before passenger operations.
  • Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a target for all phases of Lines 4 and 4A to open by October 2026, describing the integrated corridor as a 58 km link once connected to Line 11.
  • Trial operations are using temporary facilities while a 45-hectare depot for Lines 4, 4A, 10 and 11 is built, with permanent commissioning to follow regulatory sign-offs.
