MMRDA Submits Revised Metro Line 13 Plan, Advances Line 14 Study

The move aims to improve ridership with a pricier design that takes load off packed suburban trains.

Overview

  • MMRDA sent a revised Detailed Project Report for Metro Line 13 to the Maharashtra government with the cost now pegged at ₹17,724.99 crore.
  • The corridor is planned at about 24.9–25 km from Bhayandar to Dongarpada in Virar with 17 stations, including a 3.25 km underground stretch between Vasai and Nallasopara.
  • Officials say the 88% jump from the earlier ₹6,900 crore estimate reflects inflation and the addition of underground construction.
  • The line is intended to pull riders off crowded Western Railway local trains and will offer an interchange with Metro Line 9 at Subhash Chandra Bose Ground in Bhayandar.
  • Separately, MMRDA received bids from RITES, SMEC, and Tata Consulting Engineers to prepare a fresh DPR and techno‑economic study for Metro Line 14 from Kanjurmarg to Badlapur, a proposed 38 km link expected to cut trips to about 40–45 minutes.
