Overview

  • On May 30, MMRDA informed the Supreme Court it would cancel tenders for the ₹8,000 crore 5-km tunnel and ₹6,000 crore 9.8-km elevated road linking Thane and Bhayandar
  • The decision followed Supreme Court concerns over the fairness of disqualifying Larsen & Toubro despite its price bid being lower than Megha Engineering’s
  • L&T was excluded for failing to submit an affidavit confirming no bridge or barrage built by it had collapsed within two years, keeping its financial offer sealed
  • MMRDA is considering reducing the combined base cost by about ₹3,000 crore based on bid data revealed during litigation to improve public fund efficiency
  • A fresh tender process for the Mumbai Coastal Road extension is expected to restart bidding and address transparency issues
