MMRDA Installs 56-Metre, 450-Ton Span Overnight at Bhandup Junction, Pushing Mumbai Metro Line 4 Past 84.5% Completion

The lift keeps the fully elevated Green Line on track for phased commissioning beginning in 2026.

Overview

  • The two-girder steel span was positioned overnight using nine high-capacity cranes, two multi-axle pullers and more than 100 personnel despite unseasonal rain.
  • MMRDA reported minimal traffic disruption following coordinated planning with the Traffic Police, BMC and MSEDCL.
  • Traffic notifications allowed night closures at the Bhandup–Sonapur GMLR junction, with one lane on LBS Road potentially closed through December 31 for connection works.
  • Line 4 will link Wadala to Kasarvadavali with an extension to Gaimukh under Line 4A, creating a key east–west corridor integrated with the wider metro network.
  • Trains will initially operate with six coaches while stations are built to handle eight, aligning with phased completion targets through 2027.
