Overview
- MMRDA activated the comprehensive monsoon preparedness package on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, bringing flood-mitigation measures and tech systems online across Metro Lines 2A, 2B, 7 and 9.
- A network of 2,496 CCTV cameras with AI video analytics is live at 39 stations to detect safety threats, manage crowd flows and speed incident reporting.
- An AI-enabled pantograph condition monitoring system is operational on Lines 2A and 7 and inspects pantographs in seconds instead of about 30 minutes, improving fault detection and train availability.
- Thirty emergency pumps, cleaned storm drains, viaduct maintenance, 14 wind anemometers, five standby trains and a 24x7 Disaster Control Room have been deployed to coordinate response with MCGM, police and state agencies.
- The measures aim to protect commuters and keep services running during heavy rain, and they will be tested as Lines 2B and 9 face their first full monsoon, offering an early trial of tech-led resilience for Mumbai’s expanding metro network.
