MLS Suspends Luis Suárez Three Games for Spitting Incident and Revokes Sounders Staffer's Credentials

The league acted after tournament-only bans from Leagues Cup highlighted separate disciplinary paths for the postgame melee.

Overview

  • Luis Suárez will miss Inter Miami’s next three MLS matches on Sept. 13 at Charlotte FC, Sept. 16 vs. Seattle, and Sept. 20 vs. D.C. United.
  • MLS also fined the Seattle Sounders an undisclosed amount for misappropriation of credentials connected to the incident.
  • Sounders staffer Steven Lenhart had his matchday credential rescinded for the rest of the 2025 season and postseason and is limited to public seating areas at home games.
  • The Leagues Cup previously issued tournament bans of six games for Suárez, three for Tomás Avilés, two for Sergio Busquets, and five for Lenhart, to be served in future editions.
  • Busquets and Avilés received no additional MLS discipline and remain eligible for Inter Miami’s upcoming league fixtures, and Suárez has issued a public apology for his conduct.
