MLK Day on Jan. 19 Will Close Most U.S. Bank Branches as Digital Access Continues

Expect settlement delays for transfers and bill payments due to Federal Reserve systems pausing for the holiday.

Overview

  • Most major banks will shut branches and administrative offices Monday, following the Federal Reserve holiday calendar even though closures are not legally mandated.
  • Institutions listed as closing include Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, Goldman Sachs, U.S. Bank, Morgan Stanley, Truist, PNC, Capital One, Citizens, Santander and Compass.
  • Online banking, mobile apps and ATMs will remain available, but interbank transfers, ACH activity and some scheduled payments may not post until the next business day.
  • USPS will be closed with no regular mail delivery or pickup, while FedEx plans modified service, and the NYSE, Nasdaq and U.S. bond markets will be closed.
  • Government offices, courts, DMVs, libraries and most public schools will not offer in-person services, as the nation observes the federal holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr.
