MLB takes over Diamondbacks broadcast rights after court ruling allows contract rejection

  • Major League Baseball will produce and distribute all Diamondbacks games starting Tuesday after a bankruptcy court approved Diamond Sports Group's contract rejection.
  • The change comes after Diamond Sports Group, owner of 19 regional sports networks, was allowed to shed its money-losing deal with the Diamondbacks.
  • MLB previously took over broadcasts of San Diego Padres games in May when Diamond missed payment deadlines.
  • The new arrangement expands availability of Diamondbacks games by removing blackout restrictions and increasing reach from 930,000 to 5.6 million homes.
  • Fans can access games for free on MLB platforms through Sunday, after which a streaming subscription will be required, along with deals MLB struck with various local media.
