MLB Postseason TV Audience Hits 15-Year High Through Division Series

Nielsen’s new approach counts out-of-home viewing plus device data, complicating year-over-year comparisons.

Overview

  • The 2025 MLB postseason is averaging 4.33 million U.S. viewers through the division round, up about 30% from last year and the highest at this stage since 2010.
  • The Mariners–Tigers 15-inning ALDS Game 5 averaged 8.59 million on FOX and 8.73 million across FOX platforms per Nielsen and Adobe Analytics, the largest Division Series audience since 2011.
  • The two AL Division Series on FOX, FS1 and FS2 averaged 4.15 million viewers, the most-watched division round on any network since prior top-performing NLDS coverage on TBS.
  • ALCS Game 1 between Seattle and Toronto drew about 5.2 million on FOX, or 5.31 million across FOX platforms, roughly 32% higher than last year’s ALCS opener on TBS.
  • Nielsen’s 2025 methodology changes—expanded out-of-home measurement and added smart-TV and set-top-box data—help lift reported totals, while sizable Canadian audiences for Blue Jays games (3.65 million in the ALDS) are excluded from U.S. estimates.
