Overview

  • The Obispado has installed the central wooden trusses of the pitched roof and will extend work to the crucero and girola according to Ventura Rodríguez’s 1764 plans.
  • A modern water-management network of three 18-metre internal downpipes and a perimeter drainage channel aligns with original 18th-century designs to resolve chronic leaks.
  • Conservation crews have exposed and begun restoring original Renaissance vaults hidden since 1782 and uncovered a previously sealed staircase in the girola.
  • Stone specialists from Bateig are crafting 18th-century balustrades, pináculos and pedestals under Antonio Ramos’s design to complete the roof’s upper perimeter.
  • Funded by a €22.5 million provincial and regional contribution, the project remains on schedule for mid-to-late 2027 and will open rooftop paths with bespoke gresified tiles by Cerámica Cumella.
