  • The 51.38-km Bairabi–Sairang railway line has completed construction and successfully conducted its first trial runs in early May 2025.
  • Scheduled for safety inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety in early June, the line is on track for formal commissioning in July 2025.
  • This ₹8,200 crore project, sanctioned in 2008 and under construction since 2015, represents a major engineering accomplishment with 48 tunnels and 142 bridges.
  • The railway will connect Mizoram’s capital, Aizawl, to India’s national rail network for the first time, significantly boosting regional connectivity and economic integration.
  • Executed under the Act East policy, the project aims to transform travel, reduce logistics costs, and stimulate economic growth and tourism in Mizoram.
