Mizoram Chief Minister Oversees Destruction of Rs 4.29 Crore Narcotics, Pursues Community-Driven Rehabilitation

Overview

  • On June 30, Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma led a symbolic disposal in Aizawl of narcotics seized by the Central Young Mizo Association’s anti-drugs squad
  • The destroyed cache comprised heroin, methamphetamine tablets, illicit liquor, codeine-based cough syrup and dry ganja valued at Rs 4.29 crore
  • Between March 15 and June, CADS apprehended 809 individuals, providing counselling to 440, admitting 37 to rehabilitation centres and handing 48 to the Excise Department and 4 to police
  • The state government is advancing discussions with church organisations to set up high-quality faith-based rehabilitation centres
  • Lalduhoma emphasised that a compassionate community-led strategy combining counselling, skill training and livelihood support is essential for meaningful reintegration
