Overview

• The first battery-powered unit will run test and training trips between Leipzig and Chemnitz as well as on diversion routes.
• Training focuses on the driver-assist system, battery capacity and charging times, and new procedures for using the pantograph.
• The battery trains are intended to replace diesel operations on several regional routes in Saxony.
• A planned December 2023 launch was delayed by supplier issues, and MRB continues to run diesel locomotives with double-deck coaches as a substitute.
• MRB, part of the Transdev group, operates lines including RE 6 Leipzig–Chemnitz and RB 110 Leipzig–Döbeln and reports around 400 employees in Leipzig and Chemnitz.
