Overview

  • The recall covers certain 2018–2022 Outlander PHEV and 2014–2020 Outlander vehicles in the United States.
  • Affected vehicles were sold or are registered in 27 states and the District of Columbia, largely in regions with road salt exposure.
  • Dealers will replace both left and right liftgate gas spring cylinders free of charge once parts and repairs are available.
  • Owners can verify whether their vehicle is included by using NHTSA’s online VIN lookup tool or USA TODAY’s recall database.
  • NHTSA’s notice says corroding gas spring cylinders can lose pressure and, in rare cases, rupture, creating a risk of an unexpected falling liftgate.
