Mitsubishi Lowers ASX Sales Expectations After A$13,000 Entry-Price Jump in Australia

The European-made, Renault-derived model targets private buyers with a pricier, three-trim range.

Overview

  • Mitsubishi confirmed the 2026 ASX will start at A$37,740 for the LS, with Aspire at A$42,690 and Exceed at A$46,490, up from a previous entry point near A$24,490.
  • Executives said they do not expect the new ASX to match the prior generation’s volumes due to higher pricing and intense small-SUV competition.
  • The first-generation ASX sold 12,330 units in 2024 after a 2019 peak of 20,806, figures the company now concedes it is unlikely to revisit.
  • Mitsubishi has cut lower-cost GS, ES, MR and GSR variants and is pivoting away from fleet buyers, who accounted for about 38% of 2024 sales, toward private customers.
  • The rebadged Renault Captur launches without a hybrid option in Australia, with Mitsubishi saying electrification for ASX is under consideration pending a viable business case, and first deliveries are due from November 2025.
