Mitre Line Suspends Two Branches Aug. 30–Sept. 1 as Roca Readies La Plata Return

The shutdowns enable safety works under the national rail emergency plan.

Overview

  • Trenes Argentinos confirmed José León Suárez and Bartolomé Mitre branches will be out of service from Saturday through Monday for bridge renewal at Av. Figueroa Alcorta and an underpass expansion at Av. del Fomentista.
  • The interventions form part of the Emergencia Ferroviaria program and include track removal and replacement, new ballast, mechanized leveling and drainage cleaning on the affected Mitre corridor sections.
  • Long‑distance departures from Retiro to Rosario, Córdoba and Tucumán are suspended for the same three days, while the Tigre branch will run on its normal schedule.
  • Roca Line trains are scheduled to resume full service to and from La Plata on Monday with precautionary speed limits starting at 12 km/h and increasing gradually after the renewal of about 2,000 meters of rail and upgraded crossings.
  • Businesses and drivers around La Plata station report sales and activity down by roughly 50% during the monthlong limitation to Tolosa, citing difficult access and reduced foot traffic.
