Overview
- The Mitre commuter line is under a nine-day intervention through August 17, with the Tigre branch fully suspended and the Suárez and Bartolomé Mitre branches terminating at Belgrano R, and full service set to resume on August 18.
- Crews are working on four simultaneous fronts to replace about 1,650 metres of rail and install new signalling and fibre-optic ducts around Retiro, San Isidro and Martínez stations.
- The work is part of the national Emergency Ferroviaria program, a 24-month initiative backed by over 1.3 trillion pesos in investment that covers 309 projects including 40 kilometres of track renewals and 47 kilometres of third-rail replacements.
- Officials describe the upgrades as urgent due to more than 40-year-old sleepers and rails and over 40 speed-restricted sectors that have caused frequent delays and cancellations.
- Trenes Argentinos has published alternative travel routes, such as transfers via the Bartolomé Mitre branch, Tren de la Costa connections and several bus lines, to ease the impact on commuters.
