• Mitchell Trubisky returned to Halas Hall with the Buffalo Bills for joint practices and Sunday’s preseason game at Soldier Field.
• Trubisky is competing with Mike White and Shane Buechele for Buffalo’s backup role behind Josh Allen and has said his long-term goal remains to be a franchise starting quarterback.
• Bills general manager Brandon Beane said he has “a lot of confidence” in Trubisky and would be comfortable with him stepping in if Allen were unavailable.
• Caleb Williams completed six of 10 passes for 130 yards plus a touchdown in two series against the Bills under new offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
• Williams praised Johnson’s demanding coaching style, calling it great and saying it has set the standard for his development in Year 2.
