Mistral Unveils Pixtral 12B, Its First Multimodal AI Model

The new AI model processes both images and text and is available for free download under an open-source license.

Pixtral 12B is built on Mistral’s existing Nemo 12B model and features 12 billion parameters.
The model can analyze images and answer queries about them but cannot generate images.
It is available for free download on GitHub and Hugging Face under the Apache 2.0 license.
Mistral plans to integrate Pixtral 12B into its chatbot, Le Chat, and API platform, La Platforme.
The release follows Mistral raising $645 million, positioning the company as Europe’s answer to OpenAI.
