Overview

  • The court ruled that Judge Jerri Zhang applied the wrong standard in her December and February rulings and vacated those orders.
  • The reinstated ban takes effect immediately, restoring restrictions enacted after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.
  • Planned Parenthood halted all abortions and canceled appointments at its Columbia and Kansas City clinics, citing political interference and reinstated safety and sanitation rules.
  • The high court directed Judge Zhang to reassess the underlying lawsuit with a more rigorous analysis of potential harms before issuing any further injunctions.
  • Republican lawmakers have approved a new ballot measure to repeal the November 2024 amendment guaranteeing abortion rights, targeting a vote in 2026 or an earlier special election.
