Missouri Art Teacher Charged with Attempted Murder for Allegedly Poisoning Husband's Smoothie

Sarah Scheffer was caught on a hidden camera installed by her husband, leading to her arrest and charges of attempted murder and armed criminal action.

Sarah Scheffer, a 37-year-old art teacher at Calvary Lutheran High School in Jefferson City, Missouri, has been charged with attempted murder and armed criminal action for allegedly poisoning her husband's smoothie with the toxic plant 'lily of the valley'.
Scheffer's husband, who had been experiencing unexplained illnesses, installed a hidden camera in their kitchen after suspecting his wife of poisoning him. The camera allegedly captured Scheffer adding the poisonous plant to his smoothie.
Lily of the valley is a highly toxic plant known to slow down the heart and cause irregular heart rhythm, symptoms that Scheffer's husband had been experiencing.
When questioned by police, Scheffer allegedly admitted to adding the plant to her husband's smoothie with the intent to harm him, knowing that ingestion could result in death.
Scheffer is currently being held without bail at the Cole County Jail. Her school has been notified of the charges and she has been placed on leave.
