Mississippi Bridge Collapse During Demolition Kills 3, Injures 4

A bridge in Simpson County collapsed while being dismantled, resulting in fatalities and serious injuries among the construction crew.

The bridge over the Strong River on State Route 149 had been closed since September 18 for a replacement project.
All victims were employees of T. L. Wallace Construction, which was overseeing the demolition work.
The collapse occurred when seven workers were using heavy machinery to demolish the bridge, which fell nearly 40 feet.
An inspector from the Mississippi Department of Transportation was present during the collapse but was unharmed.
Federal and state officials, including U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, are investigating the cause of the premature collapse.
