Overview

  • Trailing 3-0 late in the third, Mission Viejo took the lead on Fahey’s 33-yard touchdown pass to Jack Junker and never relinquished it.
  • A field-position swing set up the score after a 54-yard punt pinned Santa Margarita at its 4-yard line and a short return set the Diablos up at the 33.
  • Santa Margarita’s defense produced two goal-line stops from the 1-yard line behind a transfer-fueled front of Simonte Katoanga, Manoah Faupusa and Isaia Vandermade.
  • A 67-yard touchdown by USC-bound receiver Trent Mosley was erased by penalty, and the Eagles’ final drive ended on an incomplete fourth-down pass from the 8 with 26 seconds left.
  • In his first game as head coach at his alma mater, Palmer oversaw a team led by Tulane commit QB Trace Johnson (208 yards) and a roster of touted recruits coached by a staff with NFL and major-college experience.
