Missing Virginia High School Coach Now Wanted on 10 Felony Counts

State police now label him a fugitive in a child-sex-crimes probe.

Overview

  • Virginia State Police obtained warrants charging Travis Turner with five counts of possession of child sexual-abuse material and five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor, announced Tuesday.
  • Turner, 46, was last seen Nov. 20 in Wise County and remains missing as authorities conduct a multi-unit search using drones, K-9 teams and search-and-rescue crews.
  • Investigators say special agents were en route to his Appalachia residence on Nov. 20 as part of the probe, not to arrest him, when they learned he was no longer there.
  • Police consider Turner a fugitive, say the investigation is ongoing and indicate additional charges are pending.
  • Wise County Public Schools says the staff member facing charges is on administrative leave and barred from school property, while Union High has continued its 12-0 playoff run under interim coach Jay Edwards.
