Missing Halloween Hiker Found Safe on Mount Tamalpais After Overnight Search

A 'Find My' location, aided by thermal imaging, guided a coordinated Marin rescue to the dehydrated hiker.

Overview

  • Deputies searched fire roads near a 'Find My' ping by Bon Tempe Dam but requested Marin County Search & Rescue at 11:20 p.m.
  • About 35 SAR members deployed with e-bikes, a UTV and a drone as CHP supported with an aircraft using thermal imaging.
  • A team located the hiker just after 2:00 a.m. above the Kent Trail near Van Wick Creek and provided water and a medical assessment.
