Miss Universe, Family Detail Miss Jamaica’s Brain Bleed and Fracture as Return Home Nears

Officials say she will fly to Jamaica with a full medical escort for continued hospital care.

Overview

  • An updated joint statement on Dec. 8 says Dr. Gabrielle Henry suffered an intracranial hemorrhage with loss of consciousness, a fracture, facial lacerations and other injuries after falling through a stage opening on Nov. 19.
  • She was admitted to intensive care in Bangkok, remained in critical condition under constant neurological monitoring and still requires 24-hour specialist supervision.
  • Doctors have cleared her to travel, and she is expected to return to Jamaica in the coming days with a full medical escort and a direct transfer to a hospital there.
  • The Miss Universe Organization says it has covered hospital, medical and rehabilitation costs in Thailand, paid living expenses for her mother and sister, and will fund the repatriation flight and all future medical expenses related to the incident.
  • The organization rejects reports that Henry was at fault, responding to accounts from a contestant and a host representative as widely shared video showed her sudden fall and stretcher removal.
