Miramar Skydiving Death: Autopsy Completed as Air Force to Examine Seized Parachute

Investigators are weighing a possible equipment failure, a mistake during the jump or a health episode.

Overview

  • Rosana Mabel Back, 52, an experienced skydiver from Misiones who lived in Mar del Plata, died after her parachute failed to deploy during a Sunday jump near Aeroclub Miramar.
  • The harness and parachute container were seized on order of prosecutor Germán Vera Tapia (UFI No. 11), and witnesses said she jumped with a rig different from her usual equipment.
  • A preliminary autopsy found multiple fractures and widespread organ trauma; blood and urine samples were taken and a continuous glucose monitor was removed for analysis.
  • The seized gear will be subjected to technical peritajes with assistance from the Argentine Air Force to assess whether a detectable malfunction or a procedural error occurred.
  • The Aeroclub issued condolences and said it has no formal link to the parachuting activity on the aerodrome property, and authorities have not identified a definitive cause.
