Miraflores Cable Car Nears Launch After Final Safety Tests

A European inspection team sent by manufacturer Doppelmayr is overseeing empty-load trials to prepare an ISO-style safety certificate that would clear the project for commercial service pending regulator approval.

Overview

  • The Teleférico Turístico Vaivén Miraflores is about 91% complete and is conducting supervised empty-load tests as part of final safety checks required for certification.
  • An Austrian-Swiss firm linked to Doppelmayr is leading the inspections and preparing an ISO-type certificate that the consortium says is needed before regulators grant operating approval.
  • The short route will link Parque Domodossola and the Costa Verde across roughly 315 meters, take about three minutes per trip, and use cabins that hold 15 passengers and accommodate wheelchairs, strollers, surfboards and bicycles.
  • The US$12 million project was built with private capital by Zig Zag Teleféricos S.A.C., owned by Consorcio Pissano, Civa and Doppelmayr, and still awaits a final tariff decision with estimates around S/10 per tramo and proposed discounts for Miraflores residents.
  • Operators project about 3,000 daily users during 14–16 hours of service and say the seismic reinforcements made after a recent temblor improve long-term resilience and make the model potentially replicable elsewhere in Lima.
