Miraflores Cable Car Nears Completion After Main Carrying Cable Is Installed

A German certification team will vet safety and operations before trial runs begin and public service is allowed.

Overview

  • The municipality said the main carrying cable was placed and the remaining tractor cable was scheduled to be completed this Saturday, a step that will finish the electromechanical mounting.
  • Officials say a German firm will perform international certification in July and that a marcha blanca of test operations is expected between late July and August before the system carries paying passengers.
  • The system will operate as a two‑cabin vaivén with 15 seats per cabin, cover about 315 meters in roughly three minutes, and allow wheelchairs, surfboards and bicycles on board.
  • The project is a private concession awarded in 2022 to Teleférico ZigZag with investment above US$10 million and a provisional round‑trip fare set between S/15 and S/20.
  • Municipal authorities cite geotechnical and environmental studies approved by Mincetur and technical checks of anchors and retaining walls to say the cliffs are stable, and they expect the line to ease access to the Costa Verde for residents, tourists and sports users.
