Overview
- The Meghalaya Indigenous Minority Scheduled Tribes Forum met Chief Secretary D. P. Wahlang and submitted a memorandum seeking action on reported comments by KHNAM working president Thomas Passah.
- Passah was quoted as urging that ST quotas in Meghalaya be limited to Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo communities and that 1975–77 MHA guidelines be strictly applied in issuing ST certificates and in central recruitment drives such as the BSF.
- The forum called the stance discriminatory and asserted that tribes including Rabha, Hajong, Koch, Boro, Mann, and Karbi are protected under the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Orders and subsequent amendments.
- In a separate representation, the forum alleged MTET 2025 irregularities, claiming an unannounced OST category on OMR sheets led to disqualification of minority-tribe candidates despite invigilator validation.
- The forum urged suspension of the teacher recruitment process and re-evaluation of OMR sheets, and it requested a formal response from the Chief Secretary, with no official reply reported so far.
